Mitra Jyothi is a registered trust (under Indian Trust Act) located at Bangalore and has been working for people with disability in general and visually impaired in particular since 1990 (for the past 31 years).

Each of the programs/activities at Mitra Jyothi are designed to addresses a subset of the problems faced by the visually disabled, thereby working in tandem they provide a holistic solution.

Educational Resource Center (Digital Accessible Books, Talking Book Library & Braille Transcription Center) à These programs primarily focus on the educational needs of the visually impaired. Along with this primary necessity that they address they nurture awareness, instill confidence and enhance personality development in the visually impaired thereby building confident and independent individuals.

Need Based Life Skills Program à Addresses issues of Orientation, Mobility, Confidence building, Vocational skill development, personality grooming and development of other soft skills and builds awareness in the minds of the visually disabled and instills the confidence in them to live life independently and be productive members of the society.

Computer Training Program à This program addresses the lack of employability skills among the visually impaired. In today’s world where every business process is computerized in the government and private sectors, the knowledge of basic computer skills is mandatory for all. Mitra Jyothi’s Computer Training Program imparts basic computer usage skills and opens up the world of computers and the information superhighway “The Internet” to the visually disabled.
